SSL Certificate Management

Overview

SSL Certificates are a way of securing communication between visitors and a website or server by way of a trusted third party. It accomplishes this by leveraging the trusted third party and public key cryptography to verify the website is who it claims to be, and securing the communication channel via encryption. It is recommend that all new websites going forward be secured with SSL certificates as a best practice, even if they do not contain private content. APSC IT and UBC IT can handle or assist with the request, installation, and renewal of certificates on websites or servers.

Getting Started

If you are the owner or technical contact for your website or service, please contact the IT Help Desk to request an SSL certificate. Please be aware though, that if your site is hosted on CTLT's CMS or Blog service that they do not currently support SSL certificates.
