Skype Decommissioning - May 31, 2021

UBC Collaboration Suite (powered by Skype for Business) is retiring on May 31, 2021. We recommend switching to Microsoft (MS) Teams, a collaborations tool that enables persistent chat, video conferencing, and collaborating in real-time on documents. When Skype for Business is decommissioned at the end of May, eligible Skype for Business accounts will automatically be switched to MS Teams Only mode.

UBC is implementing a new measure to help limit COVID-19. Effective Wednesday, September 16, 2020, UBC students, faculty, staff and visitors will be required to wear non-medical masks, when indoors on our campuses. The Remote Access to Labs (Remote Labs) service provides students with access to the University Lab Computers over the internet.

Features & Benefits

  • Easy and Convenient: Students are able to remote access to University Lab Computers from anywhere, at anytime and using the browser on their preferred device over the Internet without any special knowledge needed.
  • Secure: The communication between students’ browser and lab computers are protected through encrypted secure sessions (HTTPS).
  • Reporting tool: Provide accurate, timely and reliable usage data of computer labs to make informed decisions.

Microsoft Teams and OneDrive now available

Microsoft (MS) Teams and OneDrive is now soft-launched for Winter Term 1, with a focus on helping students with student-to-student collaboration. 

Microsoft (MS) Teams is a collaboration tool for groups to create content and share the information they need to work together. The tool is operated by Microsoft as part of their MS 365 suite. MS Teams enables users across the University to connect via instant messaging, video conferencing, online meetings, and simultaneously work on a document in real-time together. ...learn more
