Getting Started

1. Get your CWL ID (Campus Wide Login)

Your CWL ID is the primary account which allows you to access many of UBC enterprise services, faculty services and your email. More information for setup and reseting your password can be found in the service catalog.

2. Setup your FASmail (Faculty & Staff Email)

FASmail is our enterprise email service for staff, faculty and student employees of the University of British Columbia. The FASmail service furthers the academic mission of the University by providing timely and immediate communications access to the University, other institutions, organizations and individuals.

3. Update your UBC Profile Information (msp.ubc.ca)

Review your information and update any display names, email, and other relevant contacts

4. Connect to UBC Networks & Services (Get IT Help)

Get familiar with some of the key IT services on campus such as EAD Student Account, Wireless Access, VPN, Printing, etc.

4. Support Students via Faculty Service Centre (FSC)

6. Teach/Learn via Connect Blackboard

Connect Blackboard is UBC Learning Management System. Find FAQs and tutorials to get you started. 

7. Get your UBC Card and Key Access

Apply for your UBC Card which can be used for building access, printing options, discounted detals and general purchases on campus. Key access can be requested with your department office.

Purchasing for a UBC-Owned Computer?

Consult with your department IT on any specification guidelines and recommended vendors such as Apple or Dell. Our purchasing agreement with our partners has built in academic discount and warranty. The hardware catalogue provides some of the standard offerings, however, other specifications, model and brand can be ordered with consultation.

Our standard deployment for desktops or laptops will come with the basic set of campus software. Check out our Software Catalogue and the Microsoft Imagine Applied Science Webstore for more selections. For research software there are options available through distributors such as CMC Microsystems, WestGrid Services in addition to UBC Information Technology.

Printing Services

PAY FOR PRINT (PayForPrint Service)

  • Print jobs can easily be submitted from public access workstations in the library, participating departmental student labs, or online at http://payforprint.ubc.ca
  • Students, faculty and staff will need to first activate and add funds to a UBC card account in order to utilize the Pay for Print service. Accounts can be activated at http://ubccard.ubc.ca or http://payforprint.ubc.ca
  • Most students will need to update their CWL password before using the Pay for Print service. You can reset your CWL password on the CWL My Account page
  • Learn about Koerner Library Print and Scan services


  • UBC Pay for Print allows students, faculty and staff as well as guests to the University to pay for printing, copying and scanning across campus using a unified system of payment – the UBC Card or UBC Guest Card. Print jobs can be submitted from labs, public access computers as well as online at http://payforprint.ubc.ca.


  • UBC Print Shop - located centrally on campus, the IT Print Services offers printing for poster, banner, premium photos and on a variety of materials. In addition they also have design services for illustration, layout services and UBC Brand Unit Signatures. 
  • Xerox Printing Centre on campus provides print order services for business cards, wide format, finishing and volume printing for black/white and colour. Campus delivery is available.

  • Other APSC meeting rooms can be viewed via UBC FASMail room resources.
  • As part of the Calendar meeting invite, you can select the availability of the room resources for your event.
  • Please note that many room resources may be restricted for the department and school use only.

IT @ APSC teams (part of UBCIT) have local and central IT helpdesks who support a broad set of services to the staff, faculty and students in Applied Science. Many of the services can be found in our Service Catalog including, but not limited to:

APSC IT Engagement Services


The IT Engagement Services team at Applied Science is here to support the goals of the Faculty, Department, and Schools by understanding your requirements, determining what information technology options and solutions enable your capability and day to day work, and how to best engage with the user community on these changes.

We look forward to engage with you by:

  • Providing general IT services and support knowledge
  • Liaising with other IT service providers on campus
  • Assisting with escalation on IT service ticket issues
  • Providing IT consultation and project support based on your requirements
