Applied Science IT is responsible for the numerous computer labs that support teaching and learning in the Faculty of Applied Science. This page is for students in the Faculty of Applied Science who are looking for information about the lab resources available to them.

    Chemical & Biological Engineering - CHBE 314, 318 Undergraduate Lab

    HOURS OF OPERATIONS

    CHBE 314 Undergraduate Lab is alarmed and is accessible 24 hours/7days a week during the winter academic terms to registered CHBE and ENVE undergraduate students, except when the classroom is booked for lectures and tutorials. Students need to access CHBE 314 using their UBC Cards. After hours, a UBC Card is required for access to both the CHBE building and the 3rd floor.

    School of Community and Regional Planning - WMAX 250 Computer Lab

    HOURS OF OPERATIONS

    The lab is normally open 24 hours a day, unless otherwise posted. Access is through passwords issue by the SCARP main office. WMAX 250 is alarmed, and students are expected to un-arm and arm the alarm with their alarm code obtained from the SCARP main office. They can assist you with instructions on how to un-arm and arm the alarm. Note that West Mall Annex is locked at 5 pm each day. If you are in the lab after the building closes please have appropriate ID ready to verify your student status.

        Login Information

        Most Labs

        Most labs use your CWL to login, with the additional '.stu' suffix at the end of your CWL username. For example, if your CWL username is 'jsmith', you will log in with 'jsmith.stu'.

        Mechanical Engineering Labs

        Mechanical Engineering uses a unique  account system for the PACE, NAME and other lab spaces. You will need to visit https://account.mech.ubc.ca to setup your account initially, and at the begining of every academic year. Your username is the same as your CWL username.

        Electrical & Computer Engineering Labs

        Electrical & Computer Engineering uses a unique account system for its computer labs. You will obtain information about your account at the beginning of the academic year.

         

        Computer Lab Use

        Please take a moment to review the following information related to general lab use:

        • Use of the computer labs is governed by UBC Policy #104, Responsible Use of Information Technology Facilities & Services.
        • No drinks or food allowed near the computers. Damage to equipment can occur affecting the operation of the lab. 
        • Please report any problems with computers or other issues in the labs via the IT Help Form.
        • Computers must be logged off after use. Computers not logged off are susceptible to being accessed by other users, creating serious security concerns.
        • There may be additional guidelines and restrictions provided on computer lab use by the departments and schools.
